The Trump administration on Tuesday dropped its appeal of a November court decision that blocked it from withholding transportation funding to states that refuse to cooperate with immigration enforcement.
The Department of Transportation filed a motion to dismiss its appeal on Tuesday, ahead of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit issuing a decision.
“I am pleased that the Trump Administration has accepted defeat and agreed to drop its appeal of this decision,” said California Attorney General Rob Bonta, who led 21 other states in challenging DOT’s funding conditions.
The administration’s retreat from the case represents a significant victory for blue states, which have faced a barrage of DOT attacks related to immigration.

Beat me to it.
Why is positive news always some quintuple-negative puzzle?
Because this is like 3-4 steps Into the narrative.
Bad guy did bad thing. Good people fought back in court. Bad guy knew he would lose so agreed to stop trying to do bad thing.
I feel like professional writers could tease out the lede. They can’t all be “Hitler dead,” but you’re allowed to take a second whack at a garden-path sentence that means “bigots blink, states can flout ICE.”
I changed the headline to what I thought was better at that by taking a line from the text. I’m open to suggestions.
So? Didn’t they just announce federal funding stoppage for "sanctuary cities? They’ll just keep trying.
That too was defeated in court already.
Trump is much more successful at announcing illegal retribution on Twitter than he is in actually getting it past the inevitable judicial review. He doesn’t announce when a court has completely killed his attempt, he just invades Venezuela or launches an attack on an American city in order to distract people from how much he is failing to do.
He’s just going to send his goons there and shoot people instead.
