Try this at your own risk. Shift Up didn’t announce official support for running NIKKE on Linux, so they may ban you for this.
But based on the comments on Github, the person who discovered this was able to play everyday for at least two weeks without issues.
If anyone wanted TL;DR instructions:
- Download and install NIKKE on Windows.
- Transfer the entire
NIKKEdirectory from Windows to where yourdrive_cis located on Linux. - Add
nikke_launcher.exeas a non-Steam game. This exe file is located inNIKKE/Launcher/nikke_launcher.exe. - Select
Proton-GE Latestfor the Proton version you want to use on Steam. - Play.
Based on what I’m seeing in the Github thread, there’s a possibility that NIKKE is making its way onto Steam!
I just hope they don’t fuck it up like what happened with Brown Dust 2.
I don’t think ShiftUp will fuck up like BD2 devs dis. SU didn’t really over promise anything in terms of lewdness.
There are nude mods for it. So if the unfortunate event SU censors for Steam release, 1. the route I want them to take is some simple ones like light bars and they provide the patch or config to remove it, or 2. community will provide the uncensored patch.
Ideally there’s no censorship. But if it’s absolutely necessary, then I can live with an easy modification to the config file. Just like what Snowbreak did.
The issue with community mods is that they might not work for our brethren on mobile. And it also relies on someone maintaining the mod. So if there’s no one to maintain it after a few years or if the sole maintainer goes batshit insane one day, then there goes the mod.
I agree. Ideally there wouldn’t be any censorship. I hope ShiftUp can manage.
Good point on community mods. It didn’t cross my mind.
