There’s a smidgen more info in this WP entry, in which it’s described as a “13th-century brick-producing kiln.”
Interesting that the entire structure is known as a kiln, but I’m guessing that functionally that was more specific to those seven square openings…
The openings might be to let the fire heat the chamber - baked bricks are usually produced in large batches.
