“Jesus christ”

Yes this is a real strip club ad for a place named The Mouse’s Ear.

completely agree… i’ve just seen the two conflated a lot
    ….
i mean, what percentage of exotic dancers do it because they’re desperate and see it as their only way to make money (like the ad) vs. ones who enjoy their job and would choose it over other opportunities to make comparable money?
i’ve definitely seen broke women feel some pressure to “just make an only fns” not because they’re an exhibitionist but because of the myth that it’s super easy for anyone to make a lot of money that way….
but then it’s a myth, they don’t make a ton of money, severely damaging family relationships, future employment, friendships and such… their kids’ bullies finding and shit….
i think it’s more often involving exploitation than not….
(then of course there’s the other direction of exploiting lonely customers and having “fantasy” romantic relationships with them for $ but whatever, that’s fine)

What percentage of people work other risky jobs for the same reason? Sex work gets a lot of coverage from sea lions asking these types of questions without offering the same support for other hard labor like construction or oil rig work.

The issue here is that people are being forced into unwinnable situations where they feel they are forced to take jobs they despise, regardless of profession. Sex work is work, and so is hard labor. The people doing the exploitation are at fault, not the industry as a whole.

at what point does it become forced labor?
isn’t limiting choices the same as forcing someone to make a particular choice?

but then it’s a myth, they don’t make a ton of money,

It’s not a myth - it’s just not universally true. All the sex workers I personally knew out-earned me and my “professional” career by several orders of magnitude - but they are, of course, a minority.

There are people in my (ex) line of work that also got wealthy doing it - bit I daresay that your chances of earning a decent living doing sex work is better than your chances of joining that exclusive little club.

Oh look, a misogynist that was pretending to not be a misogynist is accusing others of concern trolling.

Nothing unmasks misogynists like the issue of sex work, Clyde… perhaps try and incorporate that into your pretexts next time?

i have no problem with sex workers and their chosen line of work… i’ve known people that did that, was married to one… it’s totally cool if that’s your choice.
i believe that just how easy it is to make good money doing it is super misrepresented… if someone’s very attractive, and enjoys it, then that’s pretty easy money, ofc.
but look at the flyer we’re commenting on. I’m talking about exploitation, not the validity of the oldest profession, or of anyone’s right to do it… i’m sorry i should’ve read your whole comment before saying “blah blah” and realized you were feeling personally insulted.
sex work is work. totally agree. 💯
but what i was getting at was due to misogyny/patriarchy, not just unequal pay but unequal opportunities, education access, and being relegated to a limited set of vocations, we have exploitative ads like this one…
no ads for hot dads who need to feed their kids though….

                    no worries… i’m sorry i called you a concern troll….
i run into a lot of them, and im sure you’ve run into a lot of misogynists…
i guess the moral of the story is the old Nietzche one:

when fighting evil, one should be careful not to become monstrous themselves
