This is such a dangerous take, and I strongly ask that you re-evaluate.

I certainly have my complaints about the Democrats. But the erosion of women’s rights, trans rights, consumer rights, free speech, immigrant rights, and much more is coming from one side of the aisle, and its not the blue side.

The argument that both sides share equal blame is extremely disingenuous, divorced from reality, and is the reason that we’re in this current mess.

There are definitely plenty of Democratic missteps regarding immigration. I will not argue with you on that.

But if were an immigrant in the U.S, there’s no doubt in my mind who I’d be voting for. One side is trying to expand legal pathways to citizenship, allow families that are in the U.S. to remain, and avoid punishing children who have only ever known a home that’s been in the U.S.

The other group is rounding up immigrants to be sent to Alligator Alcatraz or prisons in El Salvador.

Does one option seem slightly better to you? Or would you agree with the OP, that both sides are equally terrible and it’s just too hard to choose?

I’m not sure if OP believes they are equally terrible. Perhaps they just believe that the Democrats just fuel fascism more then fight it. That’s what I believe. I’m not living in the US, but I wonder if voting for a left party would be a better option, even if they are small in comparison.

We are in the current mess because the liberal ratchet effect keeps shifting the Overton window. They are in lockstep with Republicans in the march to the right, filling the void left by Republicans as they move. 50 years of liberal ‘lesser evil’ has resulted in incremental fascism

        So, what is your solution?

Sure, there are views that Democrats have shifted right on, but there are just as many that have stayed in place or even moved left.

Like it or not, the “lesser of two evils” approach is the only viable option right now, even if progress is only minor and incremental. The Overton Window isn’t going to make an impossible jump to socialism overnight.

In the words of James Baldwin

What is it you wanted me to reconcile myself to? I was born here almost 60 years ago, I’m not gonna live another 60 years. You always told me it takes time. It’s taken my father’s time, my mother’s time. My uncle’s time. My brother’s and my sister’s time. My nieces’ and my nephews’ time. How much time do you want? For your progress.

He said this in 1984, all his life he was told, like you are trying to tell me, it takes time. Incrementalism only helps the ones in power at our expense.

There is no lesser evil, each small amount of evil accepted allows a slightly larger amount of evil next time. Compounded over 50 years that lesser evil now denies theres a genocide occurring in Gaza, it allows an ever growing homeless population, it allows unquestioned income inequality. "Lesser evil’ translates to the same evil but impacts me less.

Liberals never ask what is your solution for the intent of knowledge or new information, they ask that to stop the conversation. They believe the only path forward is for reform and reform is the surefire way to guaranteed failure.
