I really enjoy these old painting guides for being both straightforward and attainable to the target audience of kids just starting to paint. The guide gives a simple block painting guide that could be a foundation, and the final result squad is honestly painted as described. I get a bit annoyed when I see guides where the finished miniature obviously had way more work done on it than described.

I want to point out using metallic paint for the plasma gun coils. This is a good reuse of paints already on the model as a way to keep the number of paint colors down. Metallic plasma coils are rarer than glowing, but show up occasionally in old Codexes.

The following pages in the book describe beginning steps into using washes and finishing bases with flock or sand. A good way to ease painters from what’s on this page to the next level of complexity.
