What Cowbee said. But to simplify, a system that is extractive structurally, will always expand that leeching outside it’s borders eventually.

As a mumbai native, I have to say, foreigners obsess about Dharavi too much. It is just the largest slum we have and it’s not even that bad for Indian standards. There are multi-crore businesses being run from there. We have smaller slums in much worse conditions all over urban India. Dharavi has become like the privileged brand ambassador for Indian slums.

2·5 months agoThat maybe so, but most of the present day expensive tech, like F-35s or the drones, or the missiles, need access to proprietary USian software bundles. Even if the client country gets to keep compiled binaries in air gapped private networks and make it work, they’re still running a losing race being cut off from updates.
I don’t have anything handy but I believe there’s a wikipedia page which has references for this topic. I can’t remember which one.
The news about the pilot is correct. Xi Jinping had been pushing for it for a long time and this is all he has been able to get so far. He is strongly against speculative growth of real estate.
AFAIK residents don’t have to compete to renew the lease. We have seen the first batches of leases expiring in recent times and no one got evicted. What I understand is that, you can’t sell your house after the lease expires, but you can continue living their indefinitely till the building crumbles. If the government decides to demolish and redevelop, then they give you a new house in the same place.
There are no property taxes in China last I checked.
Come to a country that was colonised by the British, and you’ll see a very different opinion. And there’s far more of us than white people.
