On my system, I can use the compose key to type a bunch of unicode chars, such as —, …, ≠, → and so on. Sadly, the pervasive use of em-dashes by LLMs ruined my use of them… It’s a pity, because I quite like them stylistically.

Yes, “they” (the Lemmy maintainers and contributors) should eventually do that, but those systems are hard to get right, doubly so on a decentralised network such as this one. For now, it doesn’t seem to be a priority (v1.0 is).

The recent evolution is great and I’ve been a happy KDE user for many years, but my oh my is NetworkManager bad. It’s not good on all systems that use it under the hood, but I find it especially unintuitive and so outdated. The applet thing is fine (still suffers from weird behaviour from NM’s core), but actual settings screen drives me crazy… The Bluetooth one should also receive some love, but it’s decent. NM needs serious revision.

In Portugal, for example (where I come from), I don’t know anyone that keeps their shoes in-doors 95% the time. If you’re doing some quick work or holding an event, people might be a bit more lack about taking off your shoes, but I (and many my friends) always make an effort to take some kind of home footware when visiting other people’s homes. As a general rule? Everyone puts some socks/sleepers/flipflops on.

I agree it’s a nice way to try it out, though it has some limitations. Also, my experience with encryption at rest has been a mixed bag, though I think that’s just because Nextcloud’s implementation isn’t quite mature enough.

It’s a key that makes the next 2 or more keystrokes be dead key inserts that combineinto some character otherwise impossible to type.

In my case, my keyboard had a ≣ Menu key which I never used, so I remapped it to Compose.

You’re correct, but that’s like saying along the lines of manufacturing a car is just bolting and soldering a bunch of stuff. It’s technically true to some degree, but it’s very disingenuous to make such a statement without being ironic. If you’re making these claims, you’re either incompetent or acting in bad faith.

I think there is a lot wrong with LLMs and how the public at large uses them, and even more so with how companies are developing and promoting them. But to spread misinformation and polute an already overcrowded space with junk is irresponsible at best.

I’ve been getting into the habit of also using em/en dashes on the computer through the Compose key. Very convenient for typing arrows, inequality and other math signs, etc. I don’t use it for ellipsis because they’re not visually clearer nor shorter to type.

That is not really true. Yes, there are jump instructions being executed when you run interference on a model, but they are in no way related to the model itself. There’s no translation of weights to jumps in transformers and the underlying attention mechanisms.

I have multiple domains and backup addresses on ProtonMail, so technically I have infinite addresses :P

I split mails domains at the identity level, and addresses (under my custom domains, for proton I use their simplelogin integration) are split between services, even though I use my main one in most places still.

My mom is an awesome cook, and I love pretty much every dish and dessert she makes, it’s hard for me to pick one. Perhaps her rendition of “bacalhau espiritual” (“spiritual cod”), which doesn’t have cheese nor the heavier bechamel sauce (has some other sauce instead) and has more vegetables like cabbage and spinach. It’s absolutely delicious.

As a slight joke (but only slight), ministers and other positions of power. It’s incredible how poorly qualified some nominated ministers are, over here…

Democracy should allow anyone to run to be elected, but people nominated by the prime minister for specific ministries, should have some degree of education or experience in the field. Until very recently, there was essentially no assessment of skills. Now there are some forms and whatnot, but I still find it very lacking.

For example, we had a minister over 10 years ago that got his Bachelor’s nullified by a court ordering following an investigation of some shady deals with the University.
