Ce să vă zic, mă, bine ați venit? bine ați venit, rău ați nimerit. La locu’ ăsta îi zice șerpărie, de la șerpii care umblă pe-aicea. Dracu’ știe cum au ajuns…

  • Yeah, xmpp is a great protocol, but everyone needs to be in the vicinity of the server

I’m also thinking about the possibility of blocking/hijacking the network by the law enforcement forces. If every device is also a node connecting to each other, they can be more hardly taken down I think.

    meshtastic

I’m not so familiar with meshtastic, but wouldn’t be more helpful to have something that actually runs on people’s phones instead of having a separate device? I mean, as you said, everyone has phones, and with something like the Ripple app (or any other panic button app) you could hide the app or clear its data (or you could do it manually). With meshtastic, in the event of a search, I think you would be more suspicious, I think.

  • No relevant EN podcasts from me fwiw. I do have some Romanian recommendations if you want to:

    • Știrile Zilei Recorder - daily news from the independent investigation publication Recorder - they mainly quote other media sources, but they’re a good and fairly neutral digest of general daily news in Romanian.
    • Recorder Talks - a collab with politica la minut - a (social) media project aiming to better explain the political events in simple terms in order to combat disinformation
    • Vorbitorincii - hosted by Cătălin Striblea, a journalist at Europa FM, together with writer Radu Paraschivescu and a few others. It is a bit right leaning, but they positioned themselves firmly against fascism and our far-right political forces
    • Istoria României (The History of Romania) - as the name implies, it is a history podcast. Although the host previously worked in IT, she manages to provide a comprehensive, fairly balanced and non-nationalistic vision of the events. She also declared that she is a fan of Mike Duncan.
    • Arhiva de Sunet (The Sound Archive) - a listened history of Romanian music. All genres and subgenres, from jazz, to rock to manele.
